Students from Mr. Harmison's Media Arts CTE Video Broadcast class recently embarked on an enriching visit to Ohio University, specifically tailored for those interested in video broadcasting and journalism. This special trip included unique "behind the scenes" lab tours, providing students with an invaluable glimpse into the world of media.
Agenda Highlights:
Following a bus tour of the expansive campus and upon arrival at Baker University Center, students were welcomed by Undergraduate Admissions and given the opportunity to settle in before the tour's activities commenced.
Scripps Hall - GRID Lab Under the guidance of Dr. Linscott, students explored the innovative GRID Lab, where they learned about the latest technologies and techniques used in media production. They also toured the cutting edge Esports arena, active competitive members of Esports Ohio (like Horizon Science Academy).
Schoonover Center - WOUB Studio The group had the exciting chance to meet with Editor-in-Chief Atish Baidya, who shared insights into the broadcasting process and offered advice on pursuing careers in journalism. They also visited the tv and radio studios, production master control areas and met one the Broadcast Engineers on staff, Mr. Terry Pack, who helped mentor Mr. Harmison during his own learning experiences at Ohio University and WOUB some 30 years earlier.
Campus Tour Following the lab tours, students enjoyed a guided tour of key campus locations, including College Green, Alden Library, Gamertsfelder Hall, and the Ping Recreation Center, before concluding their visit and a delicious lunch in the amazing Boyd dining facility.
This visit not only provided students with practical knowledge but also inspired them to think about their future careers. It was an engaging and educational experience that highlighted the vibrant opportunities available in the fields of journalism, media arts production, broadcasting, IT and gaming technologies.
